New RDA Toolkit Webinar

Just posted by Troy Linker:

Making the Most of the RDA Toolkit Open-Access Period

Join us for this free learning opportunity!

Join ALA Digital Reference Publisher Troy Linker as he gives an overview of Resource Description and Access (RDA) and describes how it is integrated into the RDA Toolkit. He will review highlights of the RDA Toolkit and point out how you can make the most of the open-access period through August 31, 2010. Pricing, subscription options, and future plans for the continual improvement of the RDA Toolkit will also be discussed.

Learn how to:

* create your own profile (and why it benefits you)

* search and browse RDA instructions

* create and share workflows and mappings—tools to customize RDA to support your organization’s training, internal processes, and local policies

* search RDA based on your existing knowledge of AACR2 rule numbers

* access RDA content both by table of contents and by element set

* search and browse AACR2 rules with links to help users navigate from AACR2 to RDA

Reserve your place today at one of these upcoming virtual sessions!

Sign Up for the RDA Toolkit

Sign up now and you’ll be ready for the start in mid-June of free open access to the RDA Toolkit!

The Co-Publishers invite you to try the RDA Toolkit at no cost from the launch in June through August 31, 2010. Sign up now and we’ll send you an email with your login information as soon as open access becomes available in mid-June. We are opening the sign-up process early to allow institutions time to coordinate their requests for institutional access.

Please sign up the same way you plan to subscribe.

·         Institutional access if there will ever be more than one user at your site (institutional access typically uses IP authentication or a referring URL).
·         Solo-user access if you will only have one user at your site (login/password authentication only).

Most users should sign up for institutional access. Why?
·         Your institution can have an unlimited number of concurrent users during the open-access period
·         You and your colleagues can test the sharing of workflows and mappings within your institution
·         You and your colleagues can take advantage of IP authentication or a referring URL to avoid institutional login (users will just log in to access their personal profile)
·         You and your colleagues can participate more smoothly in your institution’s decisions regarding RDA implementation

Sign up now and look forward to getting your login information in mid-June.

RDA Toolkit Has Its Own Website

ALA Publishing has created a new website for the RDA Toolkit. It can be found at:

http://www.rdatoolkit.org/home.

Don’t forget that with the release of the toolkit, access will be open for those to give it a try. Here’s the blurb from the site:

The contents of the RDA Toolkit will be completely open at no charge for everyone to try from the RDA launch date in June 2010 through August 31, 2010. The open-access period will end on August 31, 2010 regardless of the actual launch date. Specific details on how to register for the free open-access period will be announced closer to the launch date. Sign up to be added to a mailing list to receive announcements and updates about this and many other RDA Toolkit topics.

After the complimentary open access period, potential subscribers can sign up for a 30-day free trial account to help them evaluate the RDA Toolkit. Trials for either single-user or multi-user accounts will be offered. During this 30-day free trial period users will have full and complete access to the RDA Toolkit site.

ALA Survey on RDA Toolkit for users outside the US

ALA Publishing has a new survey out for users outside the United States who might or are considering purchasing the RDA Toolkit.

Here’s the blurb:

Please help us learn more about what ordering and payment systems we need to put in place, so we can make subscribing to the online RDA Toolkit from outside the United States as convenient as possible.

Your answers to these questions will be a key consideration as we make decisions.

We are aiming as much as possible for price parity with US dollars in other currencies.
