Viewshare from the Library of Congress

The Library of Congress has just released a new tool called Viewshare: Interfaces to our heritage. According to the site, this is a free platform to generate and customize how users view data. There are timelines, maps, pie charts, image closups, tag clouds, etc. This Screencast is a nice introduction to what Viewshare does or can do. The help page also provides a lot of information on Viewshare.

I’m not sure if this is for everyone. It sort of reminds of Google email for digital collections. Before embarking or considering Viewshare as an option, it would be wise to look at the help page and the “Terms of Service“. If all else, the source code is also available from Souceforce.
