Over the past month, there have been several good posts and papers on identifiers. Today, Resource Shelf announced that the Book Industry Study Group published a discussion paper on the ISTC or the International Standard Text Code. This idea of ISTC also appeared some time ago on the listserv NGC4Lib as part of the discussion on FRBR and identifiers for WEMI. Roy Tennant also published an article in Library Journal last March called “The Importance of Indentifiers”.

It is interesting to read all of these sources together. The NGC4Lib speculates on just how the ISTC can be used. The BISG explains the ISTC. Roy Tennant brings identifiers into context of OCLC and LCCNs. If you have time, definitely go back and read these.
