Cataloging futures posted this interesting power point on metadata by Robin Fay, called Metadata 101.
Robin Fay, Head, Database Maintenance at the University of Georgia, has shared her presentation on the basics of metadata for catalogers. Great examples.
This is a good introduction for anyone who has no previous or little knowledge of metadata. This presentation is also useful for those who would like to learn how metadata is used in more “traditional” type cataloging or cataloging in MARC21 with AACR2; as the description indicates. More than this, Robin creates a bridge between the activities in “traditional” cataloging and the what, where, where, and why of metadata in general.
Robin uses lots of illustrations and examples. At the end of her presentation is a link to a delicious website with links to all things metadata (http://delicious.com/georgiawebgurl/metadata_presentation).
